Submissions - Free Beer 7

E-Mail submissions to: warrenraysdorf@yahoo.com

Mission Statement:

FREE BEER is a bi-monthly illustrated print publication, aiming to develop a comic book culture in South Africa currently in its Seventh issue. Taking from Zine tradition we publish short and serialized fiction and non fictional stories that entertains and engrosses in all genres (horror, sci-fi, crime, detective, western, romance, adventure, auto biographic, comedy etc.), accessible to all, but with a high quality of writing and artwork. We seek to publish stories that explore the realities of living in Africa and challenge a colour blind rainbow nation! We also encourage writers to send in their stories for our comic artists to interpret graphically.
Free Beer Comics normally prints between 150 and 1000 copies per issue so these comics are all Limited Editions. Distribution is free of charge.Free Beer is in its 7th issue. Each one seems to be growing in content and quality. So I promise this issue will be the best yet. We understand that cartooning is a unique skill that is not to be taken for granted as is the cas a lot of the time. We are working on sponsorship deals in order to pay for content, that means you!
Free Beer 7 goals:
Nothing is set in stone for Free Beer #7 yet but our plan is to print this issue onTRIPLE GREEN PRINT. A wood free art paper, double coated offering better printability of the sheet available in gloss, silk or matt. Sappi manufactures this enviromentally friendly paper at its Stanger Mill, one of only a few mills in the world that uses bagasse as its primary source of pulp. The pulp is a by product of sugar droduction, being the fibrous material remaining after raw sugar has been extracted from the sugar cane plant. With a first ever for Free Beer - Colour Cover!
Submissions:
• Scripts:
Scripts should contain instructions for the artist in each panel. These should be in MS Word format (.doc, not .docx), 12 pt font. Careful consideration must be made in terms of length for dialogue or narrative within each panel. Maximum words per panel: 50 words.

• Language:

We welcome and encourage submissions in English. The usage of bad language or writings on controversial subject matter must be used carefully and tastefully. Swearing is welcome as long as part of the word is censored to leave it open ended for the reader. We do welcome uncensored material for the Free Beer Collective Book which we hope to launch after 12 issues of the paperback publication.

• License:

Free Beer accepts both published and un-published works, no matter how old. We request a non-exclusive license, and authors retain full-copyright. We are currently unable to pay for contributions, but hope to change this soon.
Send:
Send electronic submissions to us with subject being Free Beer submissions. If you can otherwise hand in a DVD or CD to Warren Raysdorf in person with either the artwork or the script on it then that would also be great.
